Trust methodology
Submitted, checked or verified.
Not everything shown on BuildTrusted has been verified. BuildTrusted labels every piece of information at one of three levels, and this page states exactly what each label means, what is never verified, and when a profile is paused.
The three levels, defined
These definitions are fixed. A label never means more than what is written here.

Submitted
Information a professional has provided about themselves that BuildTrusted has not yet reviewed. It is shown as their own statement, nothing more.

Checked
A person at BuildTrusted has looked at the document or detail and it appears to be in order. It has not been confirmed against an independent source.
- 3
Verified
The detail has been confirmed against an external source — for example the Dutch KVK business register — on a specific date, by a person.
What can be checked
These are the categories in the framework. They are not automatically complete for every professional, and a professional may be introduced with some categories still at "submitted".
- Identity
- KVK business registration
- Professional credentials and certificates
- Insurance cover stated by the professional
- References the professional supplies
- Projects completed through BuildTrusted
- Feedback from clients on those projects
Who does the checking
Checks are carried out by people at BuildTrusted, not by an automated scoring system. Every introduction is reviewed by a person before it is made.
A check records what was seen, by whom and on what date. Because documents expire and circumstances change, a check describes a moment in time and not a permanent state.
What verification does not mean
Verification is not a guarantee of workmanship, pricing, financial stability, availability or project success. It means that specific facts were confirmed against a source on a specific date.
BuildTrusted is not a party to the agreement between a client and a professional, does not supervise the work on site, and does not guarantee the outcome of a project.
During the pilot no numerical Trust Index is published. There is no ranking to buy and no position to pay for. You make the decision, with clearer information in front of you.
Pausing, correcting and removing a profile
If information turns out to be inaccurate, the label is corrected or removed rather than quietly downgraded.
A profile can be paused while a concern is being reviewed, which means the professional receives no new invitations during that period.
A professional can ask for their own profile and data to be corrected or deleted at any time.
Direct answers
Does BuildTrusted guarantee the professionals it introduces?
- No. BuildTrusted checks specific facts and reviews every introduction by hand, but it does not guarantee workmanship, price, timing or the outcome of a project.
What is the difference between "checked" and "verified" on BuildTrusted?
- Checked means a person at BuildTrusted looked at the document or detail and it appeared to be in order. Verified means the detail was confirmed against an external source, such as the Dutch KVK register, on a specific date.
Is there a public trust score?
- No. During the pilot BuildTrusted publishes no numerical Trust Index and no ranking. Only the underlying labels are shown.
Can a professional pay for a better label or a higher position?
- No. Labels reflect what has been submitted, checked or verified, and cannot be bought or influenced by payment.
